Biomass torrefaction has the potential to bring significant additional Swiss biomass resources to the market and thus provide business opportunities in fuel production and utilization. Torrefaction of wood and low cost trimmings and forest residues yields a solid fuel having improved storage and combustion properties. The project objectives are to optimize the production and combustion of pulverized torrefied biomass (PTB) at the pilot scale and to demonstrate its use as an alternative to fossil fuel in an existing plant of an implementation partner.
