Laser-based white emitters are a true alternative to LEDs for applications where a high luminance and small form factor is required. Flashlights for mobile phone cameras is one of such applications: the high resolution of todays smartphones is in most cases not supported by the luminance of the LEDs, thus resulting in grainy pictures if shooting in low-light conditions. The present project aims at filling this gap, by developing GaN-based laser diodes for compact flashlights.
