Today's design of gas compressors is limited by the specific strength of the rotor and blades. Rotor design based on carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP) materials would allow higher rpm and would hence increase the achievable pressure per stage and would reduce number of units, the footprint and hence weight of the compressor system. This study will focus on the design and manufacturing concept of such novel rotors operating in very demanding environments.
