Thermal Management in High Speed Impregnation of Thermoplastic Carbon Fiber Tapes (TheMa)
Abstract
(German)
This project will allow a substantial increase in productivity and quality of high-end thermoplastic (TP) impregnated carbon fiber (CF) tapes. This will be achieved by systematic research, design and modelling of the thermal management and the temperature profiles during their production in a lab-scale impregnation line which will be developed and constructed for the purposes of this project. Testing methods will be designed, developed and evaluated in order to characterize the final quality of the tapes. The temperature and time processing limits for the different types of TP powders, i.e. various grades poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) and Polyamide 12 (PA12), will be methodically defined and correlated to the final properties in order to avoid degradation issues and assure the good quality of the final semi-finished products (TP/CF tapes).
