We hypothesize that dog rabies cases in Walia can be contained by re-vaccination. Through integration of the neighbouring village, the risk of reintroduction can be reduced. By proving the hypothesis, evidence for successful expansion mass vaccination strategy can be gained.
Objectives:
1) Vaccinate the 9th district of N’Djamena to prevent spread of rabies across the river to the city centre.
2) Expand the mass vaccination to Koundoul to prevent reintroduction to Walia from the South.
3) Estimation of vaccination coverage in Walia and Koundoul and of the dog population size in Koundoul.
4) Evaluation of the effect of the vaccination on the epidemiology of rabies through on-going passive animal rabies surveillance.
