The development of new creep and oxidation resistant steels for steam turbines is a big challenge for the whole energy industry, not just for Alstom. Higher process temperatures allow a considerably improvement of the overall efficiency in power plants. To ensure the durability a continuously improvement of the used materials is necessary. The focus within this project is to understand the rise of casting failures to optimize the casting process by adapted design rules.
