Abstract

Ceramaret¿s philosophy is to press ceramic parts as close as possible to the final shape thus avoiding|costly secondary machining processes. There are parts (e.g. ceramic plungers and cylinders) which still|require fabrication by cold isostatic pressing, where the costly secondary machining procedure is|necessary. In order to avoid this expense in the future, Ceramaret would like to manufacture these parts|by the extrusion process.|In conjunction with Empa, the production of geometrical plungers and cylinders will be redesigned using|the thermoplastic extrusion process. With the aim of establishing this process at Ceramaret, feedstock|development, compounding, shaping, debinding and sintering steps have to be investigated to enable the|use of these parts for high performance applications.
