Abstract

There is a need to improve the fretting fatigue resistance of conductors for high voltage overhead lines in order to increase their current-carrying capacity and lifetime. Here we develop a procedure for this purpose, applicable to new or existing power lines at the critical location, i.e. the suspension clamp. To this end, a procedure based on the materials creep response is proposed to relax and homogenize the macroscopic stress state of the wires within the conductor, improving performance of the Sefag clamps.
