Abstract

A next generation of surface pre-treatment for load and corrosion resistant structural adhesive bonding of aluminum panels for automotive use as alternative to welding will be developed. Interface tailoring (surface oxide composition and near surface microstructure) and self-assembly of new functional molecules for improved corrosion resistance and bonding with the epoxy adhesive is aimed at by combinatorial screening and industrial tests validation to assess bond durability.
