A new Tensioning Device for railway contact lines made of Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composite (FRPC) material shall be developed. Replacement of the steel spiral spring in current concepts with a composite spring promises savings in weight and costs, as FRPCs have a high potential for the elastic energy storage. Two approaches shall be followed: (1) Substitution of the steel spring by composites, (2) Alternative concepts to store elastic energy (helical spring, torsion bar)
