The aim of Swisscom AG Energy Solutions (SES) "BeSmart" project is to offer telecommunication-based solutions for remotely controlling electricity consumption. By remotely controlling electrical consumers in households (with a focus on heating and boilers), secondary balancing energy is made available through aggregation. The BeSmart project had the following objectives:
- Increasing energy efficiency by helping Swiss households to keep an eye on their energy consumption and optimising the latter remotely (via an app).
- Permanently providing and delivering positive/negative balancing power (secondary balancing power) by means of the intelligent, dynamic and active load-shedding or load-building by electrical heating systems – primarily heat pumps – in households (long-term participation in the secondary balancing-energy market).
- Supporting the development of a smart grid in Switzerland through the active communication of the project results.
The project objectives have been achieved. Around 6‘300 households in Switzerland now participate in the secondary balancing-energy market. The pool participants benefit from energy savings through their active use of the app or of the SES platform.
