The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) is a leading NGO on internal displacement. It is dedicated to maintaining an online database on internally displaced persons-related information, promoting the rights of the internally displaced persons, supporting IDP-related civil society initiatives, and providing training in order to advance the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement among all actors responsible for the protection of internally displaced persons. Since 2008, the Human Security Division (HSD) supports IDMC with a core grant. This collaboration will be continued in 2012 and 2013 and will focus on the following four areas: Improving policy on housing, land and property (HLP) issues; supporting the ratification and implementation of the Kampala Convention; increasing the understanding of the changing nature of violence in Columbia and Mexico and its impact on internal displacement; and responding to the needs of populations displaced by natural disasters.
