It is intended in this project to substantially increase the safety of mountaineering activities by developing a mountaineering rope with enhanced cut-resistant properties and a reliable and reproducible testing procedure to quantify rope cut resistance. The rope shall provide enhanced cut resistance attributes without affecting parameters such as handling or performance while the testing procedure should be able to mimic the failure modes observed in the field.
