Oberflächenscanner werden heute vor allem zur Klassifizierung von Rohplatten eingesetzt. Darüber hinaus ist es grundsätzlich denkbar, dass die Scanner-Informationen auch zur Regelung der Schleifstrasse sowie zur Optimierung, Steuerung und zum Unterhaltsmanagement in der Rohplattenherstellung genutzt werden. Im Projekt sollen entsprechende Methoden für den Rohplattenprozess einerseits und den Schleiffprozess entwickelt und für die industrielle Umsetzung vorbereitet werden.
