Industrial biofouling and biocorrosion is estimated to cost industry a significant amount, e.g. over 200 billion|$ in the US alone. Biocides continue to play an important role in protecting plastics from damage by microorganisms.|The biocidal substance Folpet shows a gap of activity against specific microorganisms, which|cause severe material damage in pratice. To overcome this gap, alternative biocides will be tested in PVC|formulation separately and in combination with Folpet, to identify their possible synergistic effects. Another|aspect of the investigation is the heat and colour stability of the biocidal PVC formulation. These properties|are essential in terms to the products use in commercial applications like indoor and outdoor flooring or|tarpaulins. The transfer of the optimised biocidal active PVC formulation to a commercial production scale|will be enclosed.
