Antimicrobial nanocellulose coatings for food packaging
Abstract
(German)
Nanocellulose is a wood-based, biocompatible and sustainable material with a very high specific surface area. In|this project the Empa Laboratories for Biomaterials and Applied Wood Materials develop a food-compatible,|antimicrobial coating by chemical surface functionalization of nanocellulose and binding of a food-approved|antimicrobial. Together with an industrial partner the coating will be applied to paper-based packaging materials|and the antimicrobial efficacy will be demonstrated.
