Development of molecules for the treatment of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

Abstract (German)

We have discovered molecules that by modulating energy metabolism in astrocytes, a type of glial cell, have the potential to protect neurons and to decrease degeneration as it occurs in ALS. We plan to evaluate the effect of these molecules on an in-vivo ALS model. The more effective candidates will be patented and will be the first milestones for the creation of a company centered on the discovery of molecules targeting glial metabolism to treat brain diseases.
