The aim of the project is to develop and to commercialise a new low temperature nanoindentation instrument that will allow for the acquisition of accurate load¿displacement data down to temperatures of -125°C, based on a transducer system which eliminates thermal drift from the data. This technology will enable the measurement of hardness and elastic modulus, in addition to fatigue and creep mechanisms of materials, at nano length scales at low temperatures for the first time.
