Laser Source Influence on Plasma composition determining weld Quality of Titanium (SIPQuaT)
Abstract
(German)
Medtronic has economic interest in replacing flash-lamp pumped Nd:YAG lasers by fiber-lasers in all of the company's laser processes including the titanium welding in pacemaker assembly. They recently showed that replacement by an almost equivalent fiber laser results in a quality reduction due to interactions between laser beam, plasma, and cover gas. An analysis of these interactions occurring during laser welding of materials in order to carry on the replacement is needed.
