Seit der Vertragsstaatenkonferenz 16 in Thailand im Jahren 2013 sind die madagassischen Arten der Holz Gattungen Dalbergia und Dyospyros in Anhang II von CITES aufgelistet. Um den Handel mit diesen Hölzern kontrollieren zu können ist es unumgänglich sich auf verlässliches und wissenschaftlich fundiertes Bestimmungsmaterial abstützen zu können. Das vorliegende Projekt ist eine Zusammenarbeit der eidgenössischen Forschungsanstalt für Wald, Schnee und Landschaft (WSL) und der Université d'Antanarivo, der wissenschaftlichen Behörde gemäss CITES von Madagaskar. Es soll die wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen auf der Basis von Holzfeinschnitten zur Erkennung der 15 am häufigsten gehandelten Hölzern von Arten der Gattungen Dalbergia und Dyospyros liefern und gleichzeitig auch eine Bestimmungsschlüssel liefern, welcher es den Vollzugsbehörden ermöglicht diese Arten zu bestimmen.

Since the Conference of the Parties to CITES 16 in Thailand in 2013 the species of wood of the Genus Dalbergia and Dyospyros are listed on Appendix II of CITES. To be able to control the trade in these species, it is very important to have reliable and scientifically sound identification material. The project is a collaboration between the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) and the Université d'Antananarivo, which is the designated Scientific Authority according to CITES of Madagascar. Its aim is to provide the scientific data on the basis of thin wooden slices to indentify the 15 most heavily traded wood species of Dalbergia and Dyopspyros and establish a identification key which will allow the Management Authorities of CITES to identify these species in trade

L ‘augmentation de la demande de bois précieux sur le marché international a entrain une recrudescence de l‘exploitation illicite des palissandres, des bois de rose et des bois d‘dbne ä Madagascar. L‘insuffisance des informations relatives ä la taxonomie et l‘identification des espces rend de plus en plus difficile le suivi et le contröle de leur commercialisation. Conscient de la situation, le gouvernement de Madagascar a dcid d‘utiliser la convention CITES pour mieux prdserver et gdrer les bois pr&ieux. Ainsi, lors de la 16eme Confrence des Parties de la CITES, Madagascar a propos l‘inscription des genres Dalbergia et Diospyros «Populations de Madagascar» t l‘Annexe II de la CITES. Afin de garantir la mise en uvre et l‘application de cette inscription, un plan d‘action a prsent en parallle. Les questions relatives t l‘identification d‘espces sont parmi les actions qui devraient tre ralis&s i court terme par Madagascar. Ce prsent projet se propose d‘apporter les 1ments de rponse relatifs aux prob1mes d‘identification des grumes saisies par le gouvernement malgache lors des exportations illicites. Ce catalogue bas sur les caractres anatomiques du bois se focalise sur une vingtaine d‘espces de bois de rose, de palissandre et de bois d‘bne de Madagascar.
