The field of transitional justice is shaped by its émergence in transitions from authoritarian régimes and in contexts of strong institutions. As the practice has expanded, however, transitional justice has increasingly been applied in transitions from armed conflict, where institutions are often fragile or nonexistent. The field, however, has not engaged yet in the sort of self-reflection that allows it to consider the conditions of the possibility of its own success in such contexts. "Justice in Context" aims to make an important contribution of how to better articulate these links between justice, conflict resolution, and effective Statebuilding in order to prevent récurrence of conflict in the future.
