The Leading House “Transitions, skills and the labour market”, headed by Prof. Yves Flückiger aims at investigating vocational education and training (VET) by focussing at three themes:
- Transitions from mandatory school to the labour market: does the educational system allow smooth transitions to the working life?
- Skills: does the schooling system, and more specifically VET provide the economy with adequate skills?
- Firms’ behaviour: how do firms behave with respect to their training decisions?
The Leading House takes a labour market perspective as one of its main objectives is to understand how and by how much the educational system affect labour market outcomes such as wages, employment and skill matching at the workplace. The research of the Leading House is embedded in the education economics literature and more specifically in the literature on transitions analysis.
