Future electricity systems with high shares of renewables will require electricity storage. The project aims at|the experimental validation of a new concept at a scale of 100 kW. It is based on a combined heat pump /|power cycle. Electricity is only stored under the form of heat. In case of missing input from renewable|sources, the plant can still deliver power using external heat input, e.g. combustion of biomass. The chosen|size will allow for a quick commercialization addressing the market of distributed storage. Upscaling towards|multi-MW size is studied conceptually.
