In recent years, various road information systems SIS, eg MISTRA or LOGO, were taken into operation by federal and cantonal institutions. These systems use the axis network as a basis. In parallel, for the calculation of the volume of traffic, specialized software called traffic models are being used. These models too use the axis network as their basis. So far both, SIS and the traffic models, prepare the axis network separately and specifically for their needs. This creates double work. Seen the large number of models for the Confederation, cantons and cities this extra work is multiplied. It would be desirable to make the axis network from SIS available for traffic models thus concentrating the workload for maintaining the axis network at one point.
On the other hand, the SIS are interested in the results of model calculations, such as DTV, DWK, peak hour traffic etc. They are required for the dimensioning of traffic facilities, road and engineering structures. This agian means, that these calculations should be made accessible for the SIS.
The research project wants to identify possible synergies by the coupling of SIS and traffic models.
The procedure is divided into three phases:
1. Determination of synergy potential (literature review, expert interviews)
2. Examination of the practicalities, conceptual definition of the interfaces
3. Clarify the feasibility on the basis of a pilot application, definition of data models
Milestones are inserted between the phases by which the accompanying Commission decides on the continuation of the project.
