Optimized Technology and Improved Materials for Cell Microencapsulation
Abstract
(Englisch)
The BUCHI Encapsulators are sold word-wide and are successfully used for the microencapsulation of several materials including cells. The project aims at extending the applicability of particularly the Encapsulator B-395 by modifying the droplet formation principle. This will allow for encapsulating cell clusters such as islets in small capsule volumes, which are of high interest for diabetes therapy development. In addition, the material basis for encapsulation polymers will be extended based on novel hydrogels recently developed at the EPFL. Relying on in vitro and in vivo studies at HUG, ready to use packages will become available
