Abstract

Commercial cultivation of vegetables, herbs, and ornamental plants in glasshouses are the most intensive farming practice. The pesticides applied cause water quality problems, e.g. in Switzerland, the Netherlands, and developing countries. A high capacity fabric will be developed as a decentralized passive wastewater treatment technology based on a new coating technology. The product is mechanical and chemical resistant and regenerable. In a prototype application the technology will be demonstrated. The innovative nonwoven product is intended to substitute existing nonwoven substrates or filters used in horticulture.
