Biopolymer dispersions as barrier coatings for paper applications

Abstract (Deutsch)

The objective of this project is the improvement of the barrier properties of paper. This will be achieved by coating paper substrates with biopolymer dispersions containing clay particles. The developed coatings will be applied by using the recently developed Curtain Coating technology, which provides a much more homogeneous coating of surfaces and, consequently, better final properties. Furthermore the conventional blade and rod coating technologies are ready to use. Also the combination of both coating technologies is possible.
