The Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPs) are an initiative by Governments, NGOs, and companies providing guidance to extractives companies on maintaining the safety and security of their opérations within an operating framework that ensures respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. As a participating government, Switzerland contributes to the outreach and implentation efforts of the VPs in several priority countries, including Peru. In Peru, Switzerland is leading a local multi-stakeholder VP working group that cooperates on VP relevant issues and seeks to raise the Peruvian government's awareness of the VPs. This working group will commission a study on the security and human rights Situation In the Peruvian extractive sector which analyses the coopération between mining companies and public and private security providers. This study will inform the working group's future efforts to promote the VPs in Peru.

Project aims
(English)

The study will provide a diagnosis of the security and human rights situatton in the extractive sector in Peru, in particular on the use of force in the provision of security to mining companies. It will Inform future work of the local VP working group and provide a tool to be used in outreach efforts with the Penuvian government.
