This research project endeavors to discover, examine, and critically analyze the obstacles to a settlement of the conflict in Syria. No doubt these obstacles are both real and imagined, and they exist at many different levels among an an^ay of individuals, groups, organizations, and countries.
A team of highiy qualified and experienced researchers will meet with the key players to the conflict in Syria, including high-level Syrian govemment officiais, on-the-ground rebel Commanders, Ieaders of opposition groups in and outside of Syria, United Nations offidals, and high-level officiais from relevant states in the Middle East and internationally. They will be asked sets of questions regarding what they see, based on their own conceptual paradigms of the conflict, as the obstacles and challenges that have prevented a resolution for over a year and a half.
The sets of responses and accompanying analysis will provide a detailed data base that will enhance the understanding of the dynamics of the conflict in Syria as well as enable an exploration of potential conflict resolution outcomes. It is anticipated that what will ultimately émerge will provide guiding lessons for the world community that can be applied not only to Syria but also to other wars or intractable political conflicts.
End Product
The project team will assemble and analyze the information gathered and will write up a detailed report with concluding thoughts. The team may also conduct computer data analysis of the findings in order to offer useful comparisons between the various respondents. Finally, the project team will be available to present its findings and analysis upon completion of the project and/or during the project itself as needed.
