Short description
(English)
A novel method for evaluating pavement structural condition and residual service life based on inverse analysis
Abstract
(German)
The structural condition of a pavement is a key indicator for the pavement management system; in particular it is fundamental for the choice of the optimal maintenance strategy. Few testing and analysis tools are at disposal in order to evaluate the pavement structural condition, and almost no reliable method can be found for determining residual life of an existing pavement. Therefore further developing of the existing testing and analysis procedures will allow for obtaining a much more efficient and cost saving maintenance policy for pavements. By means of a novel testing procedure, which has been developed at the ETH Zürich (ETH Delta), it is possible to evaluate the structural condition of a pavement. The proposed modification and extension of the procedure will facilitate development of a commercially feasible testing tool and will represent the basis for determining the residual service life of a pavement structure.
