The inactivation of microorganisms on grains of wheat by means of a low-temperature plasma treatment will be investigated. A plasma circulating fluidized bed reactor which operates in low pressure where plasma conditions are well understood will be used to gain fundamental information on the design and operation in order to decontaminate the grains of wheat. In parallel an ambient pressure system based on an own development with dielectric barrier discharge will be designed, constructed and tested. The atmospheric system will meet the requirements of the industrial application.
