Assessment of RNA as a drug target - A systems approach to detection of RNA/drug interactions
Abstract
(English)
The recent discovery of gene regulation by RNA secondary structure modification induced by natural ligand binding, termed the riboswitch, has given rise to a promising opportunity for new drug development using RNA as a target. A reliable method to characterise RNA/ligand interactions at a whole organism level would greatly facilitate this process but has yet to be developed. The proposed project is a feasibility study aiming to establish a novel universal method for RNA drug discovery by mapping and characterising RNA secondary structure modifications induced by RNA ligand interactions.
