Evaluation of the cutting precision and accuracy achieved by laser photoablation of hard tissue with a CARLO medical device. CARLO: Computer Assisted & Robot-guided Laser Osteotome
Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
In the proposed CARLO device (Computer Assisted & Robot-guided Laser Osteotome), the laser beam is focused to less than 200 ìm using an optical system developed for another medical device using a similar Erbium laser. However, such precision is degraded when the laser head is mounted on a robotic arm while driving back-and-forth along the planned trajectory (CARLO operated in the robot back & forth beam guiding mode). To overcome this problem, a novel instrumental configuration is proposed where the robot moves stepwise while a second guiding element e.g. a mirror in a galvanometric positioning element or a stack of PZE elements, delivering higher precision, will drive the laser beam over the distances between the adjacent steps covered by the robot as illustrated in Figure 3.
