Development of a consistent approach for stock planning and allocation of Unit Load Devices (ULD) in international air transportation.
Abstract
(Deutsch)
Unit Load Device (ULD) supply and management services for airlines are seldomly offered by airline independent ULD providers. These providers guarantee to the airlines a sufficient pool of ULD¿s at the airports in order to meet their demand. We develop a new consistent methodological approach to determine optimal stock levels at each location and the necessary balancing operations between those. Furthermore we develop a decision support tool that allows the ULD provider to identify and approach attractive new airline customer airlines in order to complete and extend the existing customer network. The approach can therefore be used for strategic, tactical and operational planning.
