Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Allemand)
HOLL (High Oleic Low Linolenic) oilseed rape (OSR), Brassica napus, is a new market segment which represents today 20-25 % of OSR production in Switzerland. The special fatty acid composition of HOLL OSR is characterized by alpha-linolenic acid content <3.5 % and oleic acid >80 %, allowing to use the edible oil in the deep frying sector, after reduced partial hydrogenation. The main goal of the proposed research is to completely suppress partial hydrogenation of OSR oil and hence, to suppress the production of undesirable trans fatty acids associated with oilseed rape oil. To reach that goal, a new quality standard of OSR oil for frying applications must be reached: HOVLL (High Oleic Very Low Linolenic), i.e oilseed rape oil, with linolenic acid content below 2 %. |To secure an economic large scale agricultural production of oilseed rape with the required fatty acid profile, a new and innovative production technology must be developed by integrating, new varieties, an efficient control of conventional OSR volunteers (i.e. OSR plants originating from seeds lost by a previous crop in the same plot), a better understanding of environmental effects on quality and to display and explain spatio-temporal variation of oil composition, by modeling the most quality compromising factors (i.e. volunteers and climatic effects). |Research efforts in this project will consist in developing the whole technology package, as single elements of it are necessary, but considered individually, not sufficient to reach the goal of the project.
