A carbohydrate-based chicken vaccine to prevent Campylobacter jejuni colonisation
Abstract
(German)
Thermophilic Campylobacter are the most frequent bacterial zoonosis and cause of food poisoning in humans. Severe complications (Miller-Fisher and Guillain-Barré syndromes, reactive arthritis) occur in about 1 ¿ of the cases. The annual consequential costs are huge (18 billion USD in the USA alone). A frequent source of infection is poultry meat that has been contaminated during slaughter. Malcisbo develops a vaccine to prevent the colonisation of the chicken gut with Campylobacter jejuni. To date there are no commercial vaccines available.
