Respiratory syncytial virus infections are one of the leading causes of mortality in infants worldwide and cause a significant hospitalization burden both in the US and in Europe. There is currently only one treatment available, a prophylactic antibody (Synagis/Palivizumab) that is administered only to at risk premature infants because of its highly prohibitive cost. This project aims at screening pre-fractionated melusine venoms and rationally drug designed stapled peptides to identify molecules that inhibit virus entry into host cells.
