Fatigue strengthening of metallic riveted bridges using un-bonded pre-stressed CFRP plates
Abstract
(Deutsch)
Depending on the fatigue load history of riveted bridges and environmental conditions, riveted bridges may be seriously deteriorated. In particular, floor beams may be severely rusted, rivets becoming loose, and stringer-to-floor beams connections could have fatigue damage. An effective method to reinforce these bridges is to use externally bonded CFRP plates. However this method cannot be generally used for riveted bridges due to the high density of rivets on the floor beams. Therefore, it is proposed in this project to develop an easy to install prestressed un-bonded reinforcement system to be used specifically for riveted bridges.
