Description succincte
(Anglais)
The MACPoll (Metrology for chemical pollutants in air) project generates the necessary knowledge and the missing measurement capabilities for EUROPE in order to establish the traceability and comparability of difficult analytes (NO, NO-2, SO-2, SVOCs and NH-3) at a concentration level relevant for air hygiene with sufficient accuracy. METAS participates in work package 1 (WP1). It deals with the exploitation and improvement of dynamic and static generation methods for the range of limit values for NO, NO-2, SO-2 fixed by the EU air quality directive (2008/50/EC). The target expanded uncertainties are 3 % relative at limit values.

This project is part of the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP, http://www.euramet.org/index.php?id=emrp); it is partly funded by the European Union on the basis of Decision No 912/2009/EC.

Objectifs du projet
(Anglais)
METAS is active in working package WP1, as well as in the obligatory WP5 and WP6. The task 1.1.5 for which METAS is responsible consists in developing a portable stable permeation and dilution travelling standard that is fully calibrated and characterised in order to provide traceable generation means for comparisons (expanded uncertainty < 2% rel.). The target amount of substance fraction for nitrogen dioxide is the range from 20 to 100 nmol/mol.
Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
In the project, particularly work package 1,  METAS was able for the first time to demonstrate the comparability of the dynamically generated gas mixture standards and measurement methods for the two reactive air pollutants NO and NO-2 at ambient air levels (20 … 100) nmol/mol. The demonstration was achieved by a 2-step dynamic mixing and dilution system for small gas flows and its calibration with the national primary volumetric standard for small gas flows of METAS, a new traceable mobile permeation generator using mass calibrated permeation devices, with a calibrated temperature sensor at the permeation device and a calibrated mass flow meter for the carrier and dilution gas flows and a independently calibrated CLD comparator for NO and NO-2. METAS was involved in the over 30 examples of dissemination work of the projects, comprising presentation at conferences and ISO and CEN standardisation committees involved in air quality and gas analysis. The report of the whole project is available under  http://www.euramet.org/fileadmin/docs/EMRP/JRP/JRP_Summaries_2010/Final_JRP_Reports/ENV01_Final_Publishable_JRP_Report.pdf
Mise en oeuvre et application
(Anglais)
The developed methods will be used for future international comparisons and for the dissemination of reference values to customers. Furthermore, the project results lead to the three subsequent EMRP projects: ENV52 Highgas, ENV55 MetNH3 and ENV56 Key-VOC. METAS coordinates the METNH3 project and is a partner in the two other projects.
