Abstract
(German)
Shafts for cotton swabs have been produced by either extrusion of polypropylene or by rolling of paper. First ones are not biodegradable, the latter ones are expensive. The goal of this CTI project is to develop and produce a material formulation based on biodegradable biopolymers or other matrices like algae, filled with renewable wood or cellulose fibers which can be processed by extrusion. Another approach is to partially dissolve the cellulose with an ionic solvent and to produce self-reinforced cellulose composites.
