Abstract

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and is increasing in the general population with a prevalence in our population of up to 8% over age 75 y. As it is the most important trigger for Heart Failure and Stroke, AF must be considered a major health problem. Reliable methods for indicating risk for AF are lacking and careful analysis of the ECG could improve this process for the sake of individuals but with an impact on the population. P-Wave (atrial signal in the ECG) is considered as the ¿Cinderella of the ECG¿ and has not been evaluated in depth for indicating AF risk. Therefore an advanced analysis of the atrial signal would be an important commercial advantage for the concerned industrial partner.
