With the advent of inexpensive 3D cameras, such as the Kinect system for the Xbox, large scale networks for reliable people tracking became possible. A major problem of deploying such a large scale camera network is that the position and orientation of each camera needs to be known. The goal of the proposed project is the development of self-organizing 3D camera network, which needs no prior information about the camera positions and orientations but will learn this information as it is trying to track people. Besides being able to automatically estimate the cameras positions and orientations, the proposed system will also be able to map the indoor space where it is deployed allowing new indoor location based services.
