Antimicrobial silver surface treatment of orthopaedic implants (PROSILVER)
Abstract
(Deutsch)
An antibacterial surface treatment consisting of silver immobilized in an organic linker (INA)* and ligand (L1)*|is applied on TiAlNb and CoCrMo orthopaedic alloys via a solution process designed to combat|periprosthetic infection which is the main cause of revision in total hip and knee arthroplasty.|While the concept has demonstrated to be feasible in vitro on lab scale, the project will determine safety and|efficacy through biocompatibility and animal studies of the industrial scale by integrating the process on an|existing orthopaedic production line.|*see Background IP in exhibit 3
