Development of metal solubilization free metal working fluids for the medical device industry
Abstract
(German)
Unconsidered medium probability but high impact risk aspects of metal working fluids (MWF) in implant production were discovered when lead adsorbats were detected on test implant surfaces. MWF may promote the solubilization of metals, which adsorb on machined surfaces. It is the aim of the project to engineer novel tradable MWF for the global market that prevent solubilization of metals. First, current MWF for device manufacturing are analyzed and solubilization mediating compounds are identified. Based on the findings, new formulations will be engineered.
