Formative and summative evaluation of 18 health promoting schools in in the city of Berne to receive information concerning enhancing an inhibiting factors in the course of implementation.

Project aims (German)

Evaluation aus Daten von 5½ Jahren Gesundheitsteams in 18 Schulen der Stadt Bern zur Feststellung, in welchem Mass diese Art Programme einen Effekt zeitigen.
Die Studie soll ein Bild des Implementierungsprozesses in jeder beteiligten Schule liefern, unter Berücksichtigung der Akzeptanz und Unterstützung des Programms durch Schullei-tung und Lehrerschaft, der Qualität und Quantität gesundheitsfördernder Aktivitäten, ebenso von feststellbaren unterstützenden und hemmenden Faktoren.
Sie soll ferner festhalten, inwiefern die beteiligten Schulen die Ziele der auf europäischer Ebene lancierten Aktion "Health Promoting Schools" in Bern erreicht haben.

Abstract (English)

The plan of the evaluation study extends 5 1/2 years, with data collection for the formative evaluation in 18 participating schools in the city of Berne. For the summative evaluation pre-tests and post-tests will be performed.
On the grounds of a data collection in 18 health promoting schools in the city of Berne, a formative evaluation yields information concerning enhancing an inhbiting factors in the course of implementation and concerning the degeree of compliance with the basic principles of a health promoting school.
The summative evaluation is designed to test the hypothesis that teachers and pupils in schools which have been successful in implementing the principles of a health promoting school report a higher degree of personal well-being and health, display stronger life-skills and healthier behaviour and consider themselves as more active partners in a common organisation than their peers in schools where the implementation process was slower and less active.
