Kurzbeschreibung

The performance of the 79kW PV plant, installed at the Flumroc AG site in Flums was measured and analysed. This PV plant is based on the first two-axis Solar Wings tracking system, where the PV module are mounted on module beams, 9 meters above the ground of the outdoor storage facility of Flumroc. The DC power of a PV string, tracked by the Solar Wings system, was compared to the DC output of a fixed flat-roof mounted PV string consisting of the same number and type of mono-crystalline silicon standard modules and the same 10kW PV inverter. During the full first year of operation, from July 2010 till June 2011, a specific AC yield of the whole system of 1360 Wh/Wp was measured (78.96 kWp nominal power including the 3.76 kWp of the fixed reference system). This represents a 36% higher specific yield relative to the longtime average PV yield of new large scale PV installations in Switzerland. Thus the yearly energy of this two-axis Solar Wings System in Switzerland is in the same range like PV installations in southern Italy. On the clear sky day 27th of June 2011 a detailed performance analysis shows 27% higher measured DC power of the tracked modules compared to the fixed mounted reference system on the DC input connectors of the inverter. The measured DC current at MPP of the tracked PV string was even 43% higher before noon and only 19% higher in the second half of the day. This additional loos of energy yield was found to be clearly attributed to the shading effects from the nearby high voltage transmis-sion line, occurring in the afternoon. Total yearly losses of shading are estimate to about 4% only for the tracked PV modules. Very high DC losses of about 4% were found for the tracked modules. The measured gain in DC power due to tracking was 14% between Jan and June 2011. Without these additional effects of local shading due to the power transmission line and without the higher DC cable losses a gain of 22% due to tracking, was analysed for that two axis Solar Wings Plant.
