Short description
(English)
In the last decade, the number and intensity of social conflicts in Latin America has significantly increased and gained visibility, threatening democratic governance and stability; the most explosives of them are associated with natural resource extraction and management. This project explores the tensions that exists among diverse set of actors, including the interest of the State to promote economic development, the rights of indigenous groups to protect and manage their ancestral lands; and the contractual obligations granted to domestic and foreign private companies. Recommendation and lessons learned will be produced through a participative and cooperative effort and presented in a report to be formally submitted to different organs of the OAS and the multilaterals, and disseminated widely in the region, in order to contribute to conflict prevention and resolution.
