The aim of the project is to develop a highly wear resistant coating for new generation gear grinding tools. A breakthrough in terms of process technology for higher tool lifetime and novel geometry is required: innovative electroplating process will be advanced on top of the nickel-diamond grinding tool body in order to enable a radical extension of the life time of the current design by tailoring the mechanical properties (toughness and hardness) of the added layer. Process innovation includes for the first time selective plating on the nickel surrounding the diamonds of the innovative layer.
