Kurzbeschreibung
(Englisch)
Atmospheric temperature and water vapor profiles are very important parameters for numerical weather prediction. With growing interest in climate change, accurate long-term measurements of aerological profiles now become even more important and essential for the development of climate change policies and weather services securing the public safety and quality of life. At the aerological station Payerne standard radiosounding has been operational since the mid of the last century. Several new sophisticated remote sensing methods have been developed over the recent years and added as complementary profiling systems at the station. This project aims at cross-validating measurement series of the different remote sensing systems with standard radiosonde measurements in order to investigate the pros and cons and particularly the uncertainties of the different systems. The goal is to improve primarily the temporal resolution of temperature and humidity profiles by producing a merged product, which integrates the different remote sensing and radiosonde systems and will eventually serve as a reference for aerological temperature and humidity profiles. This work is in line with the goal of the Payerne station to become a reference station within the Global Reference Upper Air Network (GRUAN) that is in preparation by WMO.
