SPHERIC - Technology for auto-generation and integration of embedded software through a web interface
Abstract
(English)
Since the introduction in 2008 of the first Poken device, more than 400,000 devices have been sold. The product enhancement foreseen with this project would accelerate the business development and enable the company to handle 20% more business, as fewer engineering resources will be needed to handle customization requests. Poken currently works with the promotional product channel, the events channel, retail, and special Value Added Resellers as well as large corporate customers (IBM, Microsoft, Adobe, Deloitte, etc.). These partners integrate its products into more complete solutions. The custom extensions would be applied to the device by the end-user itself or already preloaded during production. The challenge that the company faces today is that with VARs (Value Added Resellers) in 20 countries, we have requests for many custom projects that have a potential value, but require some adaptation of our products. The goal of this project is to equip our VARs with a web based tool that lets them do the core part of the customization themselves (auto generating a custom embedded firmware for their customer‟s needs), so they can better answer the needs of highly valuable customers. Our tools will allow them to enhance the system to fit their needs. In order to achieve this goal, some significant advanced research and development is needed, in order to create a modular software platform that these partners can build upon.
